Jobs and Supported Employment
In Hampshire we want to support more people with a learning disability to have a job. This could be through voluntary work, work experience or apprenticeships.
What we want most is for people to have a real paid job.
AcrossHampshire there have always been supported employment services to help people with a learning disability into work. The contracts for these services are going to end in September 2010.
We are now going through a tender process to provide new services from October 2010.
The new services will be broken down into three parts:-
-
Supporting people to become prepared for work
-
Job Opportunity Co-ordinators who will find the jobs for people
-
Job Coaches who will support people who need it when they are at work
The new services will also work with mainstream employment providers like Job Centre Plus to make sure that the services they provide in Hampshire are good at supporting people with a learning disability too.
We want to make sure that anyone with a learning disability who lives in Hampshire and wants to work can have the support they need to make this happen.

Aspirations For Life will develop new ways of working with children and young people with learning disabilities, their families, and the range of professionals involved in their lives.
